Conclusion To A Truly Wonderful Journey

Today was our final day and even though we did not go to any new place we were able to reflect, and draw some conclusions upon what we had learned and what we will do with our new found knowledge. I myself have grown as a young activist and actually feel as though we all can bring about real change especially after going on this tremendously amazing trip. This has been a life changing once in a lifetime experience where I was able to create an incredible family who are all prepared to make change with me and use all of this knowledge for the better. The time I am writing this my final post is and I am stricken with feelings of sadness because our trip is over and honestly it truly does make me sad, thinking about the fact that when I wake up tomorrow and go to breakfast I won't have the people I have built a really deep relationship with for the last few months there with me, with all of their different personalities and overall loveliness.  I miss them all already and it's been just a little over 2 hours since well all departed from one another lol. I without a shadow of a doubt love everyone who I went on this amazing journey with and I know without a doubt that this is far from the last time we will all meet.  With that I can write this post with a smile knowing that our movement begins now :)

Ignorance, Hatred, Love, & Cartoon Network

I was startled into consciousness this morning by the sound of Cartoon Network. Momentarily, I forgot where I was. It didn’t take long, though, to remember that I was on the Civil Rights Trip and soon to be leaving for Sunday morning mass. We arrived just in time, even though many of us were very lethargic. The music commenced and like a footprint in the sand, my tiredness washed away. I was hit, entranced, by the power of the harmonies and rhythms I was hearing. The First Time I Cried in 10 Years

Today, today, today. Today was the first time I cried  in 10 years   because of the hurt that I felt looking at the statues and monuments in Kelly Ingram Park. The statues show the hurt that the people in our history have been through,  but also how they used there hurt as power to stand up for themselves. There's a lot that still needs to be published and be counted as history. Roscoe Jones taught me something important.  He was apart of the movement, but was not acknowledged and he didn't want money, or fame. He fought for equality not integration, and today we still are not equal. Fight for your rights, stand up for yourself and others. -Coleman

For the first time in over three years!

Today was the day I went to Church for the first time in over 3 years. I woke up this morning with butterflies in my stomach, even though I wasn’t nervous. It was the fact that I have haven’t been in God’s house for a very long time and that it was now my time to go see him. I felt relieved when I first stepped foot in the church only because I knew it was something that I had to do for myself. I had some good and bad times throughout the last 3 years of my life, so this was my chance where I felt I could spiritually confess my sins to God.  As I sat there listening to the pastor, I started to think about Martin Luther King Jr. That man is one of the reasons why we live the way we do today. He helped in many different ways, whether he was there or not. He just wanted everything and everyone to be equal.
