Laughing Through the Pain

After listening to Catherine Burks-Brooks and Roscoe Jones, I realized they both had one thing in common: a great sense of humor. I don’t think this quality was a coincidence. Over the past couple days I have witnessed how emotional the civil rights movement is for everyone affected by it, which is literally everyone. It was amazing how these two activists would speak of certain events yet keep the mood light at times. While it made for an enjoyable talk for us listeners, it seems like this humor is necessary for these activists to stay sane after everything they have been through.
