Connecting the Old With the New

Though I saw many great things today, I think my favorite was the old Ebenezer Baptist Church and the museum. While I was at the old church, the first thing I thought of was how amazing it would have been to see him preach and be that close to him. I also thought the windows in the church were beautiful (especially the windows with the faces in them). Additionally, I can honestly say I’be never been present at a church service as put together, yet still genuine than the one we went to at the new Ebenezer. I enjoyed the connections that were made between the issues of that time period, and the issues we have now. In the museum my favorite part was lunch counter simulation and the interactive board. During the lunch counter simulation all I could think was difficult it would be to not react, and I was only in the simulation for a little bit more than a minute. On the interactive board, it showed victory (which was shown with several important people of the movement), loss (which was shown with places that lost their glory after the movement), and hate (shown with important events during the civil rights movement). Throughout the day I felt a range of emotions, but mostly thoughtful. For example, the lunch counter upset me, while the church uplifted me. Overall, I really enjoyed the day, and again, I learned a lot.
