I do not cry...

This is my first trip this far from home and it has hit me hard already. Our first stop in Greensboro had me crying twice. what really made me cry was the stories that our tour guide told us. The way people from all races where treated for helping the Civil Rights Movement was just wrong. Especially people of non-white decent. I cried so much about the little boy who they beat and murdered. I put myself in his shoes and his mothers. I could not believe that something this terrible happened. Also there was this picture of two black men who were hung for something they did not do. The tour guide explained how one guy pled for his life and they broke both of his arms and hung him back up. I had to really look away because every time I looked at it I felt like crying. Overall today has been a very emotional day. If you ask majority of my friends and family they will tell you that I do not cry.

  1. Joey, this post made me tear up. I'm glad you are being open and honest and letting yourself respond emotionally to the things you are learning and experience on the trip. I know it is overwhelming and heartbreaking - but important. - Ms. Ross
