Talk about #stayingwoke
If you ever want to cry, Atlanta is the city to go to. The sites that preside in this city are directly connected to the Civil Rights Movement; so connected that it rose our Civil Rights Father, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. The feeling that one gets when they see the bed MLK slept in or the pride one gets when they see the house that is bigger than theirs, is overwhelming. This experience of seeing everything connected to MLK was amazing especially seeing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of whites and blacks! At The Center For Civil And Human Rights, a museum in Atlanta Georgia, CRT Kids experience stories of people from the movement in the 20th century and other movements of activism in other parts of the world. I don’t know whether it was the rubble of the Birmingham Church bombing, the sound of children singing in the background of the pictures of the 4 ladies killed or whether it was the simulation of the sit-ins where we felt the kicks of white supremacists...but I felt tears welling in my eyes and my heart racing. Talk about #stayingwoke.
While at the church that Andrew Young attends today, I saw a young girl walking down the stairs and waving to us CRT Kids as we proceeded to talk to Andrew Young. This young girl was so innocent and all she knew was that she was saying hi to newcomers. This brought tears to my eyes as I realized that the 4 girls killed by a bombing were doing the same thing: walking and preparing to praise Jesus.
These experiences I just can not feel in Baltimore. I’m speechless now.
