The Harrowing Brutality of the Civil Rights Movement
Visiting the National Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro showed me just how violent the Civil Rights Movement was. I knew that what people endured was bad, but seeing pictures of bodies hanged, burnt, and mutilated was very eye-opening and unsettling for me. People brought their kids to lynchings, and took pieces of dead bodies home to showcase as a token of pride. The fact that white people regularly got away with, and even encouraged this kind of violence is disturbing.
